Glock Striker Fired - Range testing with three popular percussion pistols—the Glock 17, the Smith & Wesson M&P, and the Springfield XDm—shows just how successful this design was.
There are currently three main percussion guns competing for the service gun market. There are other weapons of note, but for this comparison, I'm covering the weapons with the highest number of sales. I chose 9mm as the caliber because recently the 9mm Luger, with the excellent loads we now have available, has regained its popularity in law enforcement agencies as a good combination of maneuverability and power.
Glock Striker Fired
Of the three guns, the Glock was the most compact, the XDm the smallest, but the differences were fairly small. All of the guns tested are base models that would likely be chosen by civilians and agencies.
Safe Action System
The first similarity is that all of the test guns use a polymer frame. All have an adjustable rear sight that can be adjusted for windage inside the dovetail. All have safety triggers that require full coverage of the trigger before the pistol can be fired. All use double-layered, high-capacity magazines with spot holes for external bullet counts.
The Glock and M&P have 17-round capacities, while the XDm has 19. All three pistols have a front rail for mounting lasers or lights, and all have interchangeable rears to better fit the user's hand. All three guns are easily removed and cleaned.
The weapon has been tested for accuracy and hundreds of rounds have been fired without a single miss. In addition to me, I was assisted by two other testers, Ray Owens, my gun club president and NRA rifle, pistol, and shotgun instructor, and Mike Byrd, my longtime friend and gunsmith, who is an action pistol and 3-gun competitor. .
Glock definitely deserves the first mention because it was a pioneer in this field. The pistol tested is the Model 17, the first model in the now extensive Glock product line.
Adaptive Striker Fired Greatness: The Sig P320 Pistol
Currently, the latest version is the 4th generation. Apart from the spring and extractor design, the changes in Glock generations are mainly about ergonomics. While all of the pistols reviewed have a following, the Glock probably has the most loyal following of any pistol.
Glock believes its design is an action safety, and it's precisely safety features like these that have put Glock at the forefront of the percussion revolution; in fact, it could be said that these features created the popularity of assault rifles. The Glock is cheap, reliable, and safe, qualities that make it a good service pistol.
Of course, the Glock pistol has its detractors. Glocks use a different grip angle than almost all other service-type pistols, which creates quite a bit of controversy. Another problem is the trigger.
Of the three testers who shot these rifles, all said the Glock's trigger was the worst, and they didn't like the grip angle once, even though Ray regularly competes in Glock events. The sight is a white dot on the front and a marked U on the back.
Why Don't Glocks Have Hammers?
One of the testers liked the Glock scope best. The Glock was arguably the most difficult of the three lists to make, as the release tabs had to be held down to extend the slide forward.
The Smith & Wesson M&P was introduced in 2005 using Browning's locking system. It replaced the Sigma range of pistols with much better trigger pulls and improved ergonomics. It is the only one of the three guns they test that has a manual thumb safety.
While the Glock partially compresses the shock spring when the trigger is pulled, the M&P rotates down, making it easier to get a better Smith trigger.
All testers felt the M&P had a better feel, even Ray, who regularly competes with Glocks. The standard back strap provides support that fills the arms and doesn't look bulky. The M&P was also a winner in the trigger contest, receiving two out of three votes.
Semi Automatic Pistol
Out of the box, it was crisp and had a good feel. All testers agreed that the M&P had the most controllable rebound, although the best six-plate time at 10 yards was set by Mike Byrd, the team's lead shooter, using the XDm. Mike preferred the XDm trigger over the M&P, even though the M&P had a better break. Also, removing the gun in the field does not require dry firing the trigger.
Springfield Armory XDm and I have a lot of history. I shot two Bianchi Cups with my 9mm 5.25, the only change was the Rob Leatham installed trigger. Mine has been as reliable as any gun I've owned, but this is no different in this group of guns, all of which have a solid reputation for reliability.
The XDm has an added safety feature that I really like when handling safety. For service and duty weapons, passive safeties have proven to be a real asset, and the XD's grip safety is a great idea.
The standard XDm we tested had an excellent trigger, and while it was a reasonable trigger for a service pistol, it was the lightest. For some reason, the XD feels tall and a bit heavy. After backing up, Mike and I noticed that there was most of the muzzle spin.

I think it's because it has the highest bore center through the handle, but then again, it shot the fastest on the plate. The XDm was the easiest pistol to use and the only one that did not require a trigger pull to remove the slide.
I know at least one person who shot him in the hand disassembling a Glock. (Please don't complain that it's done the wrong thing, it's obvious, but it happens.) The XDm also has the most significant frame rails, which appear to have twice the contact area of the other two midcars tested.

All of these rifles are excellent firearms with just the right mix of accuracy, safety and reliability that make them a great service pistol. What makes a great service pistol does not make a great competition or target pistol, although all of these rifles can be modified to be good at competition and do so regularly. It all depends on what you like, both in brand loyalty and features.
What Is A Striker Fired Action?
Of the three, the M&P emerged victorious by a narrow margin. We all liked it better, but a little better. The Glock is a very good gun, but since everyone involved in the test is competitive, I suspect the trigger hurt the Glock the most, and the different grip angles didn't help. I suspect you would feel much differently about our observations if you shot the Glock more often.
Both the M&P and XDm featured a tilt indicator, a grip safety on the XDm, and an ambidextrous slide release that was easier to remove on the M&P. All three guns are fantastic and all are perfectly suited to the task they were designed for. It's your choice and you can't choose a bad weapon among them.

Wtf Glock Firing Pin Hole?
On a typical striker-fired pistol, such as a GLOCK or Smith & Wesson M&P, the striker end is the striker. First striker fired pistols were simply cocked by the movement of the slide, and the trigger actuated sear to fire the pistol.
This is not the safest arrangement, especially with a cheap gun. There is actually a two-stage process with GLOCK-like actions. When the slide is moved, the stock is partially prepared for spring fire. This is a willing position.
There is a pitch block that prevents the batter from running forward, and the batsman, if released from the half-pitch, would probably not have enough power to throw a dunk.
When the trigger is pressed with the finger, the trigger is pressed against the action rod, which presses against the firing pin. The sear moves back, the sear block falls and the sear is broken by the pressure of the spring and moves forward.
